Pass the Keys | Elegant Grade 2 Listed House Overlooking City Wall (Available From: 03.01.2025)
About this spaceOur charming Victorian townhouse is located in the popular neighbourhood of Bishophill. It's down a quiet crescent- shaped street, just five minutes walk to the city centre, and close to Bishopthorpe Road's vibrant parade of shops and cafes. The views from our house are truly unique as we are directly inside and facing York's ancient city walls, which can be seen from the living room and master bedroom. We have two double bedrooms, fast WIFI and offer on street parking for one car.The spaceIn addition to its quaint exterior, our house is tastefully presented internally to a high standard, and decorated with quality soft furnishings. You’ll find plenty of period features inside which include original sash windows, rustic doors, cornices and cast iron fireplaces. Some of the floors are slightly sloping, which is one of the pleasures of living in an older house. Key items of furniture have a story behind their origin from our family history, and the interior décor has been gradually formed from our time travelling and collecting memories.Downstairs:The house opens to a staircase hall leading into the open plan sitting and dining room, with large sash windows which frame the Bar Walls. There’s plenty of space to relax on a double sofa and two armchairs. In the living space you’ll find an extensive library, a collection of board games and a 43 inch Smart TV to keep you entertained. The dining area holds a large extendable table and four chairs. Our kitchen also forms part of the open plan living, and is situated to the rear, with cream wall and base units and wonderfully bright skylight windows. This is our second home, therefore it is kitted out for home cooking, with gadgets such as a hand blender and food processor. The range cooker gives you plenty of space with the six gas burners and two ovens. In here, we also provide a first aid kit and fire blanket. Other appliances include use of a dishwasher, tall fridge freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster. We have a Nespresso machine which is compatible with most capsules, so don't forget to bring your favorite coffee! The utility room is an extension from the kitchen, in which you will find an additional sink. There is a washing machine in our house but it is currently not in working order (as we wait for a spare part to arrive.) To reflect this, there is no washing machine amenity on our listing.Upstairs:In the master bedroom there is a double bed and plenty of guest storage. There are two built in wardrobes; one with two hanging rails and the other with shelving, a chest of drawers, two bedside tables (with lamps on each side) and a window seat for admiring the view onto the city Bar Walls! The rear bedroom has a built in wardrobe with hanging space, a freestanding towel rail, a built in bookcase and a bedside table with lamp. Installed in the bookcase is a USB charging plug socket. (The bed is a small double, so please be aware of this when choosing bedrooms.)Both bedrooms have a cane chair, laundry basket and an original cast iron fireplace as an ornamental feature. In the bathroom is a white three piece suite, which matches the interior style of the house. There is a rainfall shower over the bath, and plenty of storage in the form of shelving and a wall hanging rail unit.Outside:We are lucky enough to have some outdoor space in the city centre! French doors from the kitchen can be opened out into the courtyard, which is marvelous for alfresco dining on a warm day. We have an outdoor table and bench, plus two additional chairs which are usually stored in the utility room. For those who are interested in history, architecture and sweet treats!....There is some impressive history which links our house to the Victorian architecture in York. Our Grade II listed house forms part of a terrace designed by the Victorian architect George Townsend Andrews, also renowned for designing York’s old railway station buildings within the City Walls. The construction of Dewsbury Terrace began in 1854 and was completed only shortly before the death of the architect. His memorial plaque can be found on the side of 31 Castlegate, YO1 9RN.Dewsbury Terrace can also be connected to York’s famed confectionary past! The French confectioner, August Claude Gaget was hired by the Rowntree brothers, and it was he who introduced Rowntree’s Fruit pastilles in 1881. Monsieur Gaget lived along Dewsbury Terrace at his daughter’s house after his retirement. And lastly, we support responsible travel within the current restrictions and therefore my property is available for booking where the purpose of your stay falls within the current guidelines set out by the local Government.Guest accessGuests will have access to the entire house.
